Garbage bills to rise in 2026

Mukilteo residents should expect an increase in their garbage bills in the new year.

Effective Jan.1, the average customer in Mukilteo will see a 9% garbage rate increase, largely due to increased disposal fees from Snohomish County.

Snohomish County has increased disposal fees at all facilities for the first time since 2009; this is where Waste Management disposes of garbage. Waste Management is required by the county to utilize its facilities for garbage disposal, which means costs for customers will also increase.

Customer fees are the primary funding source for the county’s solid waste division – it is not supported by tax dollars.
