Warren Eugene Lashua: 1937-2024

Posted

Warren Eugene Lashua passed into eternal life on August 8, 2024, one day after his 87th birthday.

He was born in Index, Washington, and spent his childhood and youth in the Pacific Northwest, attending grade school, junior high, and high school in Ballard and Edmonds, Washington. From a young age, Warren was recognized as an exceptional athlete and was a standout as a 3-sport athlete in football, basketball, and track and field at Edmonds High School where he earned 12 varsity letters and earned All-Northwest League and All-State honors as the quarterback for his football team. He was inducted into Edmonds-Woodway’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016.

He was given a full-ride scholarship to Whitworth College in 1955, where he played football under the direction of his beloved football coach Sam Adams. He was a strong leader on the football and track team and was given many NAIA District and Evergreen Conference awards, including first-team All-Conference, All-Little Northwest, and Honorable Mention All-American. He was inducted into the Whitworth Athletic Hall of Fame in 2015. Despite all the athletic accomplishments at Whitworth, he always said that the best thing that ever happened from attending Whitworth College was meeting his beloved wife Joyce, who was the homecoming queen his freshman year. He said he knew instantly upon meeting her that he wanted to marry her, and they were married in 1956. Warren was then drafted by the Chicago Bears and San Diego Chargers, but chose to play for the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League until 1960.

After college and his time with the BC Lions, Warren went on to work in the aerospace industry in both Nebraska and Seattle between 1960 and 1963 and then worked in the pharmaceutical industry until 1967. In 1968 he was introduced to landscape contracting, working for Olympic Landscaping, where he found his true passion. He opened his own landscaping company, Sea-Q Landscaping, in 1976. He quickly became a sought-after landscape design and contracting expert, creating beautiful residential and commercial properties for the next 30 years.

Warren loved salmon fishing, watercolor painting, and spending time with his family. He was a devoted and loving husband, proud father, and encouraging grandfather.

Warren is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joyce Lashua, his son Marc (wife Carrie), his daughter Kirsten (husband Tom), his grandchildren Candice (husband Mike), Zach (wife Melissa), Maddie (fiancé CJ), Chloe, and Luc, and his great grandchildren Cruz, Ryder, Makenna, and Kody. His love of sports continued on through his children and grandchildren, as he rarely if ever missed his grandkids' football, volleyball, or baseball practices and games – He was the ever-present supporter.

In lieu of flowers please consider donating to St. Jude Children’s Hospital – Warren had such a soft and generous heart and wanted to help anyone who was dealing with hard times.

It’s not “goodbye” forever. It’s “see you in heaven.” We love you immensely and miss you so very much.
